Summary of the updates

Release Notes 3.5.21 (2023.10)

NOTE: This is an urgent patch build addressing two longstanding bugs in the macOS/Metal backend of Redshift. Additional fixes and support for the latest Houdini/Solaris production builds are included.

  • Cinema4D Fixed a bug introduced in 3.5.20 causing "Something has gone wrong with shader ref counting!" in scenes with Tri-Planar nodes.

  • 3D Studio Max Render View and Feedback Display are automatically disabled in Network Render Server mode.

  • 3D Studio Max Fixed issues with camera export in a Redshift Proxy, ensuring correct color management settings.

  • 3D Studio Max Addressed problems with the Physical Sky shader not updating sun position during IPR.

  • 3D Studio Max Fixed Light Group name collection issues from XRef objects.

  • 3D Studio Max Resolved a problem where Export Connectivity Data setting was silently enabled during proxy export, leading to large files.

  • Houdini Added support for Houdini 19.5.773 and dropped support for 19.5.682.

  • Hydra Added support for Solaris 19.5.773 and dropped support for 19.5.682.

  • macOS/Metal Fixed a parameter binding issue causing frame corruption/dark buckets/undefined behavior.

  • macOS/Metal Fixed a bug with async kernel compilation that could result in frame corruption.

  • CPU Fixed a bug causing excessive CPU usage for one specific core and resulting in sluggish behavior in other CPU-intensive applications.

If Blender crashes on MacOS, consider switching the GPU Backend to OpenGL instead of Metal on Apple Silicon (System settings of the Blender Preferences).

Redshift offers a variety of powerful features and works seamlessly with popular 3D modeling and animation software such as 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, and Blender
